Journeying with the Land
Retreat
Join the tribe for our annual walking and prayer retreat. We will spend 3 days walking, journeying, praying, reconnecting, and nourishing ourselves in the beautiful breathtaking lands of Mendip Hills. Walks will include Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury Tor
Cheddar Gorge
A moderate 5-mile walk along paths with some steep climbs.
Cliffs may be difficult to access for those with limited mobility.
“Cheddar Gorge is one of Britain’s most spectacular landmarks. It’s both an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It is one of England's largest gorges. It’s made of limestone that has sheer cliff faces, pinnacles, and a massive system of caves beneath it in the Mendip Hills.
It’s estimated that it was formed some 300 million years ago and some of the first settlers made a home here 13,000 years ago in the Old Stone Age. Cheddar Man, Britain’s oldest complete human skeleton, was also discovered in one of the caves in the 1900s”
Glastonbury Tor
An easy 2-mile walk ascending up to 158m
Tor is the Celtic name for a cone-shaped hill. So Glastonbury Tor is a hill in Glastonbury. The hill is one of the icons of Glastonbury and can be seen from afar. Many legends surround the tor such as a hidden cave through which you can pass into the fairy realm of Annwn, a site for the Holy grail and it being a significant place for King Arthur and his knights.
